People should be able to rent pets when they are bored

트로피이미지

Introduction
Have you ever been to a pet cafe? Dog cafes, cat cafes, and even rabbit cafes are becoming popular around the world. At these cafes, guests pay an hourly rate to play with the pets. Should people be able to rent pets when they are bored? Let’s see what our debaters think.

People should be able to rent pets when they are bored. Have you ever heard of pet therapy? Research shows that spending time with animals often has a calming and soothing effect on people. That is why pet cafes are a great place for people to go and relax. Also, the animals are happy to be shown love and affection. It is a positive experience for both the animals and people.

Debater 2 Ashley
People should not be able to rent pets when they are bored. Pets should be owned by owners who love and care for them. People visit the cafe for a couple hours and then leave the animals. Pets at pet cafes do not get the chance to form a real bond with an owner. Also, I do not like the fact that pet cafe owners are using animals to earn money.

Rebuttal
Debater 1 Henry

Many pet cafe owners actually love animals. That is why they started pet cafes! They love and care for the animals. They create a real bond with the pets. Also, the animals have hundreds of guests that show them love and affection every day. Pets at pet cafes have the best life! My friends and I go to pet cafes all the time and the animals always seem happy.

Debater 2 Ashley
I have also visited a cat cafe. I thought that the cats looked miserable. Although some cats crave affection and attention from people, other cats do not. Cats are naturally very independent animals. Sometimes they hate being touched! However, they are forced to be handled by hundreds of guests per day so the cafe owner can earn money. It may be a positive experience for people, but not for the animals.

Judge’s Comments
The winner of today’s debate is Henry. Ashley’s rebuttal point focused on cats. However, the debate topic is not just about cats. In a debate, it is important to make sure that our arguments address the full debate topic. If our arguments are too specific, then they may not address the debate question completely.
